The right installation method has many advantages. The most important of them is the optimization of the installation and foundation work. In the worst case, installation is multi-staged and very expensive work. With efficient solutions, installation can be done quickly and at low cost.
Flexible installation options allow a stand with the same appearance to be used at different sites. Some installation solutions also offer flexibility in the long term, i.e. easy reorganization of cycle parking.
A freestanding cycle stand usually has spots for 3-6 bikes attached to a single frame. The frame is supported on the ground. In regular use, it isn’t necessary to anchor it to the platform. In public use, however, the stands are usually anchored, in order to prevent them from shifting around.
In the basic freestanding setup, the frame is a steel tube with 3-6 bicycle stands attached to it and supporting legs at both ends of the frame. The legs are attached to the frame with hidden screw joints, and there are also holes in the legs for anchoring purposes. The structure is light and firm. On ground level the structure is simple and therefore easy to keep clean. For storage or transportation, the stand can be dismantled into parts. There are also many additional options, such as extra weights, ability to connect additional stands one-by-one and using hidden screw joints for easy replacement of broken parts.
There are also special massive versions for one or two bikes; these can also be implemented in freestanding form. These include some of the Duet stands, among others.
Surface-installed stands are suitable for firm platforms, as they need to be anchored. For PedalSlot stands, there are several technical implementations. A single bicycle slot is anchored using a flange. It is also possible to construct several stands to a larger flange, which allows a smaller number of total anchorages and easier installation. Likewise, in place of the large flange can be a steel tube. This allows the utilization of the additional options listed under freestanding stands.
In ground installation
With in ground installation, only the individual stands are visible above ground. Traditionally, stands have been attached by casting them into concrete or by embedding a massive support element into the ground. Such installations require several working stages, which makes installation expensive. PedalSlot offers a more economical option of installation rails embedded in the ground. With installation rails, the installation can be done at once, and because they enable very low installation, they are an excellent choice for paved areas.
In wall installation, the stand is attached to a vertical surface or object, in practice to a wall, fence or pillar, for example. Installation into a solid structure is quick, and the ground level is left entirely free. In addition to individual cycle stands, the installation can be done using an auxiliary frame. This enables installation even if the distribution of beams or other structural elements is inappropriate.
Integration with furniture
The PedalSlot support mechanism can also be integrated into other street furniture, such as a bench or a planting container. This way, cycle parking can be set up entirely without installation work of its own. At the same time, parking can be decentralized, facilitating parking precisely where people visit.
